Newbie Indoor Gardener: Smells Like Teen Spirit

by BrianBeckley November 7 2011 07:41

While holding down my couch last night, I popped off an email to our Mail Order department:

Hello Worm’s Way Mail Order! My garden is starting to get a little stinky. As you know, I’m growing leaf-lettuce and basil using a Botanicare Aero Machine and Flora Duo A&B. What do you recommend I do to make my air a little fresher? The old plug-in air freshener isn’t cutting it. My friends are coming over this weekend to play Agricola, and I need to do something fast. I thought about cooking some bacon before they show up (with dark brown sugar - it’s awesome). What would you suggest?

Thanks in advance!

Brian

They get in earlier than I do, so my answer was already waiting me.

Hello Brain!*

Thanks for sharing your hydroponic hobby with us and we look forward to help refresh your growing area.  When it comes to odor control in the area you have a few different options depending on your budget.  The Uvonair 1000 Junior will not just mask odors but will convert “stink molecules” to odorless carbon dioxide, water, and oxygen molecules, and covers 1,000 cubic feet.

If this option is out of your price range then your best bet is either the ONA Mist dispenser or the Ozium Starter Kit.  Each product will dispense a fine mist of odor controlling liquid into the air at specified intervals.  The canisters are available in different fragrances and a six ounce canister will treat up to a 6,000 square foot area making them very cost effective.  In any event these products will allow you and your friends to play Agricola without pesky odor sensations lingering around the fun.  Have a worm-derful day!

Those are a lot of great choices, and I got an Ona Mist Dispenser.  With holidays around the corner, things are tight. Problem solved. My world is happy. Until next week!

The conversation didn't end there. They also wanted to know WHY my garden is developing a smell. I didn't know, I thought it was normal... Turns out, not. I'll write more about that next week.
