On the way home from Worm’s Way I was really excited about starting my new hobby. My car stereo was pumped up all the way to 11 and it was a beautiful southern Indiana, blue sky, warm, fall day… in spite of the rain (funny how your mood warps reality).
I’m really looking forward to being able to share the foods and flowers I am going to grow with family and friends. I love being able to offer my creations as gifts. I also brew, so maybe I can make an interesting metheglin with herbs I grow myself, create pestos, or find new ways to offer healthier gifts. Who knows? There are endless possibilities.
Once I made it home, I very enthusiastically told my wife all about everything I was going to do and got to work right away. I set some anchored hooks in my ceiling above the place I had reserved for my garden, and hung rope ratchets to suspend my light. I opened my Sunleaves Float and Grow seed starter and my seed packets and stared at it wondering where to start. I was sure I remembered something about soaking the seeds…I think?
I found the Worm’s Way YouTube video Successful Seed Starting and learned that soaking is only really necessary with big and hard seeds, not something I need to do for lettuce and basil. Thank you Jen the Grow Gal!
I like how the Float and Grow works, because it’s easy to tell if I need to add water. Between that and the Humidity Dome, my seeds have a perfect home to break out into the world.
Next week: a great story about (undoubtedly) living seedlings.
